Phil: A Death in the Family

We returned to Hanoi to find sad news from home. My uncle Van G. Jones, my father's youngest sibling, died in the early hours of Oct. 18. His health had been declining over the last couple of years, and we had recently heard that it was getting significantly worse. But it is still a shock to lose him. We're also sad that we won't be able to be with family to mourn him and to celebrate his life. But he, and they, are certainly in our thoughts.

Phil and Gail, I just returned today after Daddy's funeral. It was a sad time but at the same time good to realize he is at peace in heaven. The church was full with family and friends and it was a lovely fall day. Charles and Evelyn both were able to come. We received a wonderful fruit arrangement from "Edible Arrangements" that Ann Reid broght over from you and Suzy. Thank you so much. I've really enjoyed keeping up with you via your blog....great tool. Love Catherine

Missed you at Uncle Van's funeral. It was a lovely service and beatiful day. Of the first cousins, 12 were there. There was a big lunch at the Jones farm and we went for a long walk in the woods, showing the younger generation several of the memorable sites in the woods. Looking forward to another big family gathering at Marisa's wedding next May. Love, Mary
