Paradise Inle Lake

After a day trekking in the hill country we moved to a lower elevation (2900 ft.) for three days on Inle Lake which is the second largest lake in Myanmar at about 45 square miles. All of our transportation during these three days was either on boat or by foot. Our first taste of this water world was at the jetty where we met our boat for the day.

One of the first interesting sights was men rowing boats with a leg.

They manage to stand balanced on one leg while using the other one to move the oar in a figure eight pattern that propels the boat forward. In the second photo the fisheman is pulling in his net with both hands while rowing with one leg. A pretty amazing act of agility.

After a 30 minute boat ride we arrived at our home on Inle Lake, the Paradise Inle Lake.

This hotel is built on posts sunk into the lake bed. Another part of the appeal for us was that the cottage was sided with woven bamboo and roofed with palm thatch.

It made for an interesting stay and also gave us our first experience sleeping under a mosquito net.

In the evening we enjoyed sitting on our front porch watching the fishermen and the sun setting.
